Installing Moisture

Moisture can cause a multitude of problems in your house, from mold and mildew to wood rot. If you suspect that there is moisture in your house, it is critical to locate and address the source promptly. There are a few different ways that you can locate moisture in a house.

Check for Visible Signs

The first step is to check for visible signs of moisture. This includes looking for water stains on the walls or ceiling, peeling paint, or warped wood. If you see any of these signs, it is likely that there is moisture in the area.

Use a Moisture Meter

A moisture meter is a device that can be used to measure the moisture content of a material. These meters are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased at most hardware stores. To use a moisture meter, simply place the probes on the surface of the material and read the display. A high reading indicates that there is moisture present.

Use a Infrared Camera

An infrared camera can be used to detect moisture by measuring the temperature of a surface. Wet areas will appear as darker areas on the camera’s display. Infrared cameras are more expensive than moisture meters, but they can be more effective at detecting moisture that is hidden from view.

Once you have located the source of the moisture, you can take steps to address the problem. This may involve repairing a leak, improving ventilation, or installing a dehumidifier.
